Making Money
How to make money with your own adult site
If you’re already a webmaster making money with your tgp’s, blogs etc this article is not meant for you. If you’re however someone who would like to make money with porn and you do not have an idea where to start, this could be a good beginning
.
Why do they pay anyway ?
Why would the makers of pornsites pay you anyway ? Imagine : You started a pornsite. But as you might guess, you’re not the only one on the world with a pornsite, so you need to convince your potential customers, that you have the porn they are looking for. The best way to do that, is to be sure that those potential customers see your porn and -even better- like it.
In the past webmasters of paysites did this by ‘banner’ programs. They payed webmasters of free sites with adult orientation some money for each customer they received, referred by the banner on those sites. And these bannerads methods still work. However, people want more : They do not only want to see a banner, but also want to see some samples of what to expect. So the paysite owners -we call them ’sponsors’ from now, also made other content available, so webmasters could show those samples too. A webpage with such samples we call a ‘gallery’ (for obvious reasons). In the beginning every webmaster had to create and host his own galleries, but soon some sponsors thought, that it would be more productive to create them by themselves and allow the webmaster to link to them with a special referralcode.
But let’s guide you through the process step by step…
Get a hosting account
First you need a place to build your site. In our example we create an adult blogginsite, so you need a hosting account allowing you to use MySQL (a database), PHP (a programming language) and most important of all -since most hosting companies do not allow it- you need the permission to use legal adult materials.
When I had to select a suitable hosting company, I could only find one which was fitting in my budget (and I can say I currently make enough money with my sites to go to another company, but because the service is perfect, I probably never will), and ended up with Bounceweb. For less then 7 dollar a month you have everything you need (please keep in mind, when you start, the first 3-6 months you for sure won’t have any profit, so if you even can’t spare a 50 dollars as an investment, do not even start !)
Ok, when you’re ready for step 1, get your creditcard or PayPal account and hit the link to Bounceweb to setup your account
Get the blogging software
In our example we use blogging software, because it illustrate how you can use many features made available by sponsors. You might wonder, why I told you to set up your own hosting account and didn’t tell you to subscribe to some free (adult) blogging service. Well, there are two reasons. The first, most important, reason is the way you can be found on the net. Most searchengines threat the second level of the domain equally. If you would have a domain like mydurtyblog.somedirtysite.com (somedirtysite.com is the free blogging service in this example), it will be threated equally to hisdurtyblog.somedirtysite.com and herdirtyblog.somedirtyside.com, meaning that you share your search results with many competitors : The only one who really has any advantage of this service is the owner himself (that’s the reason he also has some ads on your site).
The best free blogging program currently available is Wordpress, there is no discussion about it. So I would suggest you download it right now.
Got it ? Next step is to unpack the ZIP file and to upload it, using your favorite FTP Program (if you have none, take filezilla, it’s free), login on your ftp account at your hosting provider and upload all files to the document root directory (public_html or www if you have a Bounceweb account).
Ok, the upload takes some time, so now it’s time to create a database. In case you have a bounceweb account, go to http://mydomainname.com/cpanel (where ‘mydomainname.com has to be replaced with your domainname), give your credentials and scroll down to the row with the header ‘Databases’, there you can click on the Mysql Database Wizard icon.
The wizards asks you for a database name, an username and a password. Please bear in mind, that the ‘databasename’ and the username will be prepended with your account name, so if the databasename you enter is wp, and your account is ‘myname’, the complete databasename will be myname_wp… the same with the username. The password will be as you entered it.
Finally you have to say which rights this user has on the database : Click ‘All’ and the database is created.
Now it’s time to start Wordpress, if the upload has finished. Open your favorite browser (Firefox… even if you use IE, when you start building websites, use Firefox instead, it has great plugintools you want to use for sure) and go to your website. Then the installationprogram of WordPress will be started… and this is very simple : Just enter in step 1 the databasename, the username and the password for the database (so replace it with the defaults), in step 2 the name of your blog and your email address and presto : WordPress is installed and an email with the password is sent to your email address.
Now the last step for the installation : Choosing a good template. The standard colors of WordPress are… well… boring. But it’s very easy to get great templates. Just follow this link and select some template you would like for your site. Think also a bit about the intended subject of your site : for a fetish/bdsm site dark colors would be nice, but for a teenporn site, you would prefer some fresh colors, for lesbian or gay sites pink…Also look at the number of sidebars they have, because we’re going to use them later.
Download the template, unpack it on your local disk and upload it to the wp_content/themes/ directory on your wordpress installation.
Finished ? Then now go to the wp-admin directory of your wordpress site (in your browser, so for example http://www.mydomain.com/wp-admin/) and give your credentials. Then you end up in a page called the ‘dashboard’ of your Wordpress installation, here you have in a single view all things important. Since this is not a Wordpress course, but an instruction how to set up your site, I’ll only get into the most important details : First, you need to activate your template. So press the ‘Appearance’ menu button, then click ‘Themes’ and in the center of the page, the installed themes appear. Click on the ‘Activate’ link under the theme of your choice, and presto, your theme is active.
Next step is to remove the default posts and pages. Click on the ‘Posts’ button and delete the ‘hello world’ post. Next click on the ‘Pages’ button and change or delete your ‘About’ page. Please consult the manual if you do not understand how some things work.
Now go to ‘Settings’ and the page ‘General settings’ opens. Here change the ‘Tagline’ field with some descriptive text about your site.
Next thing to do in the settings is to go to the ‘Permalink’ submenu and change the setting for ‘Common settings’ to ‘Day and name’. This is to get SEO friendly urls.
Ok, now you create your first post by clicking ‘Posts->Add new’ and write some text like ‘Here soon will come your favorite adult blog, please be patient, we’re working on it’.
Next step : Joining the sponsors programs
Ok you did all this to join some sponsors program. What is the subject of your site ? Think about it, and when you have the answer, just sign on for the sponsors mentioned below the intended subject, the sponsors, ordered by subject, you find in the boxes on the left side of this page. Please be prepared that some might reject your application, because your site has no content yet, but most of them will allow you to join their program. You can re-apply for those who rejected you, when you have the content available.
Creating your first post
Now we’re going to have a look how you can create your first post in your blog. Please remember, we’re not going into detail of your blogging program, you have documentation for that, but we’ll take a look at how to create some money making post.
All kinds of sponsors use all kind of software for their affiliate program, so it’s hard to give detailled instructions, but we’ll take a look at the userinterface of the NATS program. NATS is a piece of software used by many adult affiliate programs and the nice thing of it is that they have a quite consistent userinterface : If you’ve seen one NATS implementation, you’ve seen them all. As an example we take 21 Sextury Cash, since they have sites in almost every niche and uses NATS. Below you see a fragment of the homepage when you log into 21 Sextury Cash, other NATS implementations look similar (although colors and position of the menu items can change)
For the moment, we’re only interested in the menu items ‘Link Codes’ and ‘Ad Tools’. Let’s say that in our post we want to show a clickable sitebanner, a picture giving a preview of the gallery and some additional descriptive text. We start with getting the linkcode for the site we want to create a sample of. So click ‘Link Codes’. A wizard will show up, the first to fields to fill you see below :
You can use several campaigns, for example, if you have multiple sites, to distinguish which site brought you the traffic, if you use campaigns, you can choose a predefined campaign, if not, leave it to default. If you go to the next step then you have to choose a program.
Sponsors in general have multiple programs, for example refshare (based on a share in the revenue) versus paypersignup (PPS, you get for each signup). In general, as a rule of thumb, revshare is interesting, if the site has potential to keep the members there for several months, if you think, it has no potential, choose for PPS. In a later article we’ll discuss what kind of site have potential and what kind of sites has not. For the moment we select the partnership program (also called revshare, precentage program or some other names), giving you up to 70% for active members sent to the site by you. What this ‘up to’ means you can read in general in some more descriptive text on the site.
After selecting it, we get to the next step. Then we get a list of all the sites. Since 21 Sextury Cash has quite a lot, we only show a subselection of the list with sites.
We want to create a gallery for the assholefever and pics and vids combo, so we copy that link (in my case http://combosignup.21sexturycash.com/track/Mzk4Njo1OjQ5/ ) with ctrl-C (windows and Linux, I have no idea how Mac users have to do it
)
Next we select a banner. Now we go to the mainmenu item ‘Ad Tools’, choose our campaign and program (see above for explanation) and click ‘Show Ad Tools’.
In this list you see the sites with the available ad tools. As you can see there is a ‘main column’ describing the type of ad tool (Like ‘Banners’, HPA/FPA (Half Page Ads / Full Page Ads), Hosted Ad Tools. Content and Feeds. For the moment we’re only interested in ‘Banners’, so we concentrate on that column. Here we see ‘Reg’, ‘Squ’, ‘Sky’, ‘Hor’ and ‘Ver’, meaning ‘Reqular’, ‘Square’, ‘Skyscraper’, ‘Horizontal’ and ‘Vertical’. We want a regular sized banner, so we select ‘Reg’ for the site Asshole fever. Then we see a list with banners, with our right mouse button we tell our browser to save the file.
